If you ever lost your smartphone, how many of your contacts’ phone numbers would you remember?
The idea of losing all the contact info stored on your cell phone is scary. So make sure you’ve got a back up!
If you have a Google Account (and use services like Gmail or Google Voice), Android devices will allow you to easily sync all your contacts. That way when you get a new phone, all you have to do is sign in using your Google account, and your old contacts will automatically be there for you.
Easy, right?
But if you’d like to store your contacts on an external SD card as a backup, it’s also pretty simple.
For smartphones with Android OS v.2.1 or higher, here’s how to save your contacts to an SD card. On your phone:
1. Go to Contacts/People
2. Select Menu
3. Select Import/Export
4. Select Export to SD Card
And here’s how to import those contacts onto another Android device from the SD card:
1. Go to Contacts/People
2. Select Menu
3. Select Import/Export
4. Select Import from SD Card
